Arts Council of Mendocino County

ALL the ARTS for ALL the COUNTY

With one opera company, one film festival, one circus, one musical theater troupe, three theater companies, two writers conferences, three art centers, two symphony orchestras, three artist studio tours, 45 commercial galleries, as well as numerous community concerts series, community theater events, museums, and arts and crafts festivals, Mendocino County is unique in it’s offerings.

While Mendocino County is known for it’s fine woodworkers, weavers, and writers, don't forget the musicians, actors, painters, glass artists, singers, and photographers. In fact, it’s been said that there are more artists per capita in Mendocino County than any other county in the state. Just about everyone here is creative in some way. The arts are a way of life. In a small community like this, you rub shoulders on a daily basis with locally and nationally known artists, actors, musicians, and writers.

The North Coast is an arts region. Every weekend, in fact every day, there is something to see, hear, and do in Mendocino County. Many of our coffee houses and pubs offer live music nightly. Many of our restaurants and inns display and sell artwork by local artists. Many of our artists have studios that are open to the public where you can witness the artistic process at hand. And on the First Friday of each month in Ukiah and Fort Bragg, the First Saturday in Gualala, and the Second Saturday in Mendocino, galleries stay open late serving wine and food and showcasing the work of local artists.

As a visitor, you can take part in the arts in Mendocino County. There are weekly drop-in studio workshops at the Mendocino Art Center and the Gualala Art Center, as well as longer weekend and week-long courses. In Point Arena, every Thursday night is Poetry night, with readings by local poets and an open mic. If you are a painter or photographer, there’s the natural beauty and awe inspiring vistas at every turn in the road — from ocean to redwoods to vineyards to mountains. You can’t help but feel inspired in Mendocino County!
