Lake County Historical Courthouse Museum, Lake Port

Thousands of stone tools and more than 300 baskets from Lake County have been acquired by the Museum since the 1930s. Many of the items were donated by county residents. During the later periods of the Stone Age, Lake County became home to the Pomo, Wintun, Wappo, and Lake Miwok Indians. The main gallery of the Lake County Historic Courthouse Museum has many artifacts and displays of the Pomo lifestyle. Dozens of decorated baskets of all sizes, used for a variety of purposes, are featured in the exhibit.

Big Valley Rancheria’s Tule Boat Festival, Lake Port

This three-day event held each summer in July is a chance for tribal members from around Lake CountyClear Lake. For thousands of years, Pomo tribes in Lake County have used the tules for weaving both water-tight baskets and boats. The event features traditional dance groups, activities for youth, and environmental demonstrations. to practice the traditional Pomo craft of building sturdy boats from native tule reed, which grow in the shallow waters around

Pomo Visitor Center, Lake Mendocino

The Round Shape of the center is modeled on a Pomo ceremonial dance house, the visitor center is operated jointly by the Corps of Engineers and the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians. Displays include information on Coyote Valley, wildlife, Pomo history and culture, natural history of the Lake Mendocino Area and the Corps of Engineers.

Grace Hudson Museum & Sun House, Ukiah

The museum's collections consist of more than 30,000 inter-related objects, with significant holdings of Pomo Indian artifacts (particularly basketry) ethnographic field notes, unpublished manuscripts, historic photographs and the world's largest collection of Grace Hudson paintings. The Museum's exhibitions and public programs are thematically shaped by, and linked to, its collections with their focus on Western art, history and anthropology.

Petaluma Historical Library and Museum, Petaluma

The former library now houses Petaluma poultry, dairy, and Miwok Indian history exhibits from the 1850s. The cornerstone for this stately Carnegie Library was laid in 1904. The building, designed by local architect Brainerd Jones and built from locally quarried stone, features the largest free-standing leaded glass dome in Northern California. The building is in the neo-classical style, featuring original fan-glass windows, round leaded-glass windows, also original interior wood paneling and columns.

Miwok Indian Exhibit:  Ancestors of the Coastal Miwok Indians lived in this area more than three thousand years ago, and their culture is represented in this display.

Santa Rosa Junior College Museum (formerly Jesse Peter Museum), Santa Rosa

The SRJC Museum houses collections of ethnographic art from throughout the Americas and parts of Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Permanent exhibits include the following: Pomo Roundhouse Model and Basketry, Plains and Plateau, Southwest Jewelry, Hopi Pueblo Model with Kachina Dolls, and Pueblo Pottery. There are a number of rotating, temporary exhibits that change on a regular basis to serve the needs of Santa Rosa Junior College classes. These temporary exhibits include additional Native North American art, Mesoamerican and South American art, Hispanic art, African and African-American art, and Asian art.

Hours:  M-F; 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Admission is free; $3.00 parking fee
